Opinion: Leeds should move for free agent, Chico Flores as he would strengthen weak area

Leeds United seem to be out of options at centre-back and they should consider a swoop for free agent Chico Flores to help strengthen their options.[spacer height=”20px”]

The Whites currently have Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper as their senior options in defence, while on-loan Matthew Pennington is out injured and Conor Shaughnessy is still an emerging talent.[spacer height=”20px”]

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen could do with bringing in one more player to help boost his squad as the 46-game Championship season a strong one, with suspensions and injuries inevitable at some point.[spacer height=”20px”]

The Yorkshire giants have conceded just two goals from their opening five league games and need to try find quality that can fight for a position in the Leeds back-line.[spacer height=”20px”]

He the type of player that the Whites should consider bringing to Elland Road and the fact that he out of contract means the deal can be cone out of the transfer window.[spacer height=”20px”]

The 30-year-old centre-back is familiar to English football having 75 matches for Swansea between 2012-14, which included 57 Premier League appearances.[spacer height=”20px”]

He also helped the Swans win the League Cup in 2013 and formed a strong partnership alongside Ashley Williams in defence.[spacer height=”20px”]

The commanding Spanish international is renowned for his no-nonsense defending style-of-play and is impressive in the air, something that would make him excel in the Championship.[spacer height=”20px”]

Chico does have a rash side to his game too, but Christiansen has already shown he can be a good man-manager and would get the best out of him.[spacer height=”20px”]

Chico Flores has been with Qatari club Lekhwiya for the past three years and won the top-flight title with them last season, but is now available to make a fresh move and a return to the English leagues should be tabled.[spacer height=”20px”]

Leeds were unable to bring in another centre-back before the summer window closes, but could be given a lifeline if they swoop for Chico as he could be an excellent cover in defence.[spacer height=”20px”]
