Man United have bounced back from their early season setback and are now on eight matches winning run in all competitions with their latest win coming from the 4-0 demolition of Reading in the FA Cup.
Jose Mourinho side, which have now been likened to the United of old under Sir Alex Ferguson endured a mixed start to the season. They did not win a match in the month of October, including the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea.
During those periods , Mourinho claimed he was working towards
“restoring the DNA of the club and wins over Crystal Palace and
Middlesbrough are testaments of that.
The Portuguese boss has made the headlines for wrong reasons many times this season, including fines and bans by the FA. However, their long-expected turn around started in November with eight victories in four competitions in that month, December and January signalling the Red’s return to form.
Obviously Man United have come a long way, from a team that was 14 points off the Champions League qualification when they clashed with Tottenham on December 11 to now just a win away from the top four and are still in three cup competitions
After some face-off with his players and switching tactics, Mourinho seems to be getting it right at the moment.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has found his scoring boots again after scoring
once in 13 games, Paul Pogba who had come under intense scrutiny in the early part of the season have been impressive while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also rediscovered the form that made him a star in the Bundesliga.
Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick have provided excellent shield for the defence with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo forming a formidable defence at the heart of United’s defence.
However, the question remains, will United keep up their current
consistency? They definitely need to if they are to feature in the
Champions League next season.
