French international and Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema has overtaken top players in the Champions League all-time goal chart this season and now owns the fifth place outright.
The French forward has passed his compatriot Thierry Henry in the competition of all-time Champions League top scorers after bagging 51st time against Napoli.
Benzema now the fifth place outright in Europe’s top competition after overtaking the Arsenal legend, with Ruud van Nistelrooy his next target on 56 goals.
Having started the 2016-17 season for Real outside the top 10 on 46 goals, the 29-year-old has now overtaken the likes of Eusebio and Alfredo di Stefano after finding the net five times in his last four games.
His latest brilliant effort drew the reigning champions in the first leg of their last-16 tie against Napoli at the Santiago Bernabeu after Lorenzo Insigne had given the visitors the lead.
Having hit the knot in the Champions League, the French forward has been finding difficul in La Liga this season, just scoring five goals so far in the Spanish top flight.
That has raised rumours that he could be replaced in the summer, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seem to be his successor at Bernabeu.
Benzema’s proficiency in Europe has seen Zinedine Zidane keep faith in him, however, and he has reached the 51-goal mark in 88 games for his current club and Lyon.
