‘Waste of money’ – Celtic’s £40k-per-week star slammed by BBC pundit

BBC pundit Tam McManus has torn into Celtic for their decision to sign Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda on loan in January.

The 21-year-old is just two months into an 18-month loan spell at Celtic Park, but manager Brendan Rodgers has left Musonda on the bench in each of Celtic‘s last three Scottish Premiership games.

He’s made a total of seven appearances for his new club, last featuring against Morton in the quarter-finals on the Scottish FA Cup earlier this month. However, his last appearance in the league was more than four weeks ago.

McManus believes Rodgers knows he has made a mistake bringing the youngster to the club.

Football Weeks‘ thought:

According to Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard, Celtic paid Chelsea £5m to bring Musonda to Scotland and agreed to cover all of his £40k-per-week wages.

Given he’s no longer commanding a starting place, however, both Chelsea and Celtic could re-assess his deal in the summer. The Bhoys needed defenders in January, not the attacking-midfielder.

Rodgers has quality attacking options in the squad but his defence is turgid. Fans were left flabbergasted only Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry were brought in to bolster their backline.
