Why Celtic should re-sign James McCarthy now worth £10 million

The Daily Mail, claimed Crystal Palace are expected to register an interest in former Celtic academy star and Everton ace James McCarthy.

But should the Hoops come into the situation and bring him back to Glasgow? What do you think?

At the Park Head, the midfield isn’t a position that needs much acquisitions at the moment bit, Scott Brown is turning 33 in June, it’s probably time that Rodgers have a re-think and prepare a move for a long-term replacement for his captain.

Hibernian’s John McGinn has only been the most speculated player fans mentioned when it comes to talking about who should replace Brown, but for now Everton’s McCarthy is a player above 23-year-old and signing the Toffees ace would be a shrewd move by Celtic.

McCarthy now worth £10 million according to Transfermkt, signing the midfielder would show that Celtic is ready to take the team to the next level and such a transfer fee would with no doubts reflect Brendan Rodgers’ ambition. The fee for McCarthy is a big figure but also a realistic one, especially if Moussa Dembele‘s sale goes through this month.

McCarthy, born in Glasgow, the Republic of Ireland international is impressing for Everton at the moment and Celtic would probably have to rely on sentiment to get the deal done.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Irish Independent in 2014, the Everton ace, who was released from Celtic, affirmed that it was a “dream” for him to play for Celtic and I think the Scottish champions should at least try and offer the 23-year-old to chance to fulfill his ambition at Parkhead.

The ex-Hamilton and Wigan midfielder is 27 and one have to imagine that Crystal Palace – if he ends up with the Eagles – would be the last club to have at this stage of his life. McCarthy with Celtic, will be assured of winning bags of trophies and Champions League football which should interest him in moving to Scottish rather than being a perennial Premier League player.

For Celtic to re-sign him, the Scottish giants has £10 million to lose, but he will walk right into the Hoops team with huge potentials for the club.
