Barcelona forward Neymar asserts that team-mate Lionel Messi will commit his future to the the club.
Messi’s contract expires at the end of this season and there have been no negotiations between the two parties for an extension. However speaking briefly after his side’s historical 6-1 triumph against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the Champions League, Neymar gave voice to his thought on the subject.
“Messi is going to renew, that is for sure,” he told beIN Sports (h/t Marca). As the report suggest, Messi is said to have been offered an annual salary of €35 million (£30 million) in an attempt to keep him at the club.
Neymar’s words will be what Blaugrana fans will hold on to. Their incredible win saw them recovering from 4-0 last-16 deficit, making the greatest comeback in the history of European football when Sergi Roberto scored at the 95th minute.
Messi was ecstatic in jubilation with supporters at the end of the game. Despite Messi not being a big part of the great comeback, the Argentine has been an integral part of Barca’s good form this season.
Messi has occasionally, without help from anyone, helped the Blaugrana win matches that are thought to be hopeless. His performance in previous years might not be as good as before but he still has a record breaking 38 goals for the team across all competition this season.
Outside of the pitch, Messi has a huge impact on Barcelona, he has added more prestige to the club. His pictures can be seen adorning the stadium and even the city, having played for the club since the beginning of his career. If Neymar words are found to be true, then more action will be expected from him.
